M1873 "Navy" Bayonet
(first pattern converted to second pattern)
To be mounted on the Beaumont Navy Rifle
This bayonet is similar to the French M1866 Chassepot bayonet. The Dutch copied the very famous M1866 Chassepot "Yataghan style" bayonet to be mounted on the Beaumont Navy Rifle. The main difference between the first pattern and the second pattern is that the second pattern has a longer locking spring.
Some Dutch M1873 "Navy" bayonets have a brass tag on the crossguard with a number on it (some say it is a ship number).
These M1873 "Navy" bayonets were not produced in large numbers and are considered rare by collectors.
